In recent days, some commentators and online voices have tried to raise questions about the finances of Etsako East Local Government Council. What is often missing in such conversations is an understanding of how government processes work.
After the election of new chairmen across the 18 LGAs in Edo State, all council accounts were placed on administrative hold pending formal transition procedures. This is a standard step to ensure accountability and due process.
Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson and his colleagues were sworn in on September 4, 2026. On that same day, the state allocation meeting for August 2026 was also concluded. This means council funds only began to flow into local government accounts after that date.
It is important to ask: how can any chairman spend money that has not yet been released to the council? Government finance follows law, procedure, and approval. No responsible leader can disburse funds that are not yet available.
Instead of speculation, the people of Etsako East should look at what Rt. Hon. Ekpeson delivered the moment resources were in place.

During his tenure as Acting Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ekpeson made history by becoming the first to approve and pay a 13th-month salary to council workers. That payment brought direct financial support to families and showed that the welfare of staff was a top priority.
That was not all. Within the same period, his administration also delivered over 53 projects and interventions across Etsako East. From roads to healthcare, education to community support, these efforts touched lives in every ward.
True leadership is not about chasing headlines. It is about service, accountability, and results when the opportunity comes.
As the newly inaugurated administration settles in, Rt. Hon. Ekpeson remains committed to transparency, prudent management of resources, and putting the people of Etsako East first.
