GROWING TOGETHER: ETSAKO EAST PARTNERS WITH EDO AGRIC COMMISSIONER TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY AND FARMERS’ PROSPERITY
Etsako East, Edo State, – In a bold step toward food sufficiency and rural prosperity, the Edo State Commissioner for Agriculture, and Food Security Hon. Dr. Jerry Uwangue; the permanent secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, and Food Security, Mrs. Bamayi Osedebamhen; and Mr. Ogunbor David, Director of Agric Services, paid a working visit to the Acting Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, at the Council Secretariat in Agenebode.
The high-level engagement focused on practical strategies to strengthen agriculture, increase harvests, and ensure that quality food remains abundant and affordable for every family in Etsako East.
Key resolutions from the meeting include a comprehensive farmer data capture using the National Identification Number (NIN) to ensure transparent and equitable distribution of support. In line with His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE AGENDA, the State Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, will roll out direct support to farmers across Etsako East.
This includes timely provision of fertilizers, improved seeds, modern farming tools, and creating new market linkages with agro-industries and off-takers so farmers earn better income from their produce.
Responding, the Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, assured farmers of stronger protection as his administration continues to tackle insecurity head-on.
Farmer representatives present commended the Chairman for his firm stand against kidnappers and for ongoing efforts to secure farmlands and communities from criminal elements.
The strategic session was also attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Charles Aloaye Dagana; Special Adviser to the Council, Mr. Peter Asikie; and other senior officials of the Local Government alongside the Commissioner’s delegation from Benin City.
Farmers in Etsako East are strongly encouraged to visit the Department of Agriculture at the Council Secretariat and register with the Director of Agriculture, Mr. Alexander Aredia Proper profiling will ensure that government interventions reach the right people, promptly and fairly.
This exercise is for the benefit of all farmers, regardless of political affiliation, and reflects the people-first vision of Governor Monday Okpebholo and the dedicated leadership of Chairman Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson.
Together, we will feed Etsako East, create wealth from our soil, and secure the future of our communities.
