ETSAKO EAST REACHES THE UNREACHED: ACTING CHAIRMAN RT. HON. SUNNY EKPETIKA EKPESON BRINGS CLEAN WATER, RENEWED HOPE, AND URGENT ROAD PROMISE TO REMOTE OKEKO VILLAGE IN WARD 10, OKPEKPE, REAFFIRMING A PEOPLE-FIRST GOVERNANCE AGENDA ACROSS ETSAKO EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

Etsako East, Edo State – In a remarkable demonstration of inclusive governance, the administration of Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, Acting Executive Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Chairman of ALGON Edo State Chapter, has once again reached deep into the grassroots to bring relief and renewed hope to the people of Okeko village in Ward 10, Okpekpe.

On Tuesday, 12th May 2026, the Vice Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council, Hon. Charles Aloaye Dagana, led a high-level delegation on behalf of the council boss to inspect a newly completed borehole water project in Okeko village, situated beyond Ebele in Ward 10. The visit marked a turning point for a community that has endured years of isolation and limited access to basic amenities.

For me, serving as Press Secretary, this was my first visit to such a densely forested and remote location. What I encountered was a resilient community of hardworking families who have lived largely out of sight, yet full of potential.

The journey itself underscored the urgency of the council’s intervention. The existing access road is in a deplorable state, barely passable even on motorcycle, making movement in and out of the village extremely difficult.

Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson may not be the first to lead Etsako East, but he has distinguished himself by keeping the people at the heart of every decision. His leadership philosophy is rooted in empathy, action, and a genuine desire to ease the daily struggles of ordinary citizens.

From the moment the council Boss assumed office in an acting capacity, the focus has been clear: improve lives, restore dignity, and ensure that development is felt in every ward, no matter how remote.

Recognizing this reality, the Chairman announced through his Vice that urgent steps will be taken by next month to mobilize road equipment for the grading, dualization, and reconstruction of the road linking Ebele community to Okeko village.

This intervention goes beyond infrastructure. It is a lifeline for a farming community. A motorable road will make it easier to transport produce to market, increase household income, and open Okeko to trade and partnerships with neighboring communities and local government areas.

Improved access will also make it more feasible for teachers and health workers to serve in the community. A village were there is a primary school building, but there’s no single teacher that is willing to stay in the village to teach their children as some of the parents cried out.

The joy and excitement that greeted this announcement were palpable. Residents described the moment as historic, expressing profound gratitude to Rt. Hon. Ekpeson for remembering them and acting decisively.

Through their village head, Chief Ileli Stanley, the people of Okeko extended their appreciation not only to the council chairman but also to His Excellency, distinguished senator Governor Monday Okpebholo, for fostering an environment where grassroots development is prioritized across Edo State.

The delegation was warmly received and included Hon. Emmanuel, the Councilor representing the good people of Ward 10, and Hon. Charles Akpeji, the All Progressive Congress, APC Chairman for Ward 10, Okpekpe. Their presence reinforced the unity of purpose within the party and the council to deliver tangible results to the people.

This visit reaffirms that Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson is leading with a messianic commitment to service. His administration continues to break barriers, reach underserved communities, and turn promises into visible projects.

The council prays for God’s continued guidance and elevation for both the Chairman and his Vice as they remain steadfast in their mission to uplift every corner of Etsako East.

With each project, the message is clear: in Etsako East, no community is too distant, no voice too quiet, and no need too small to be addressed.
