ETSAKO EAST LGC BOSS HONORED FOR RESTORING PEACE: HUNTERS ASSOCIATION EDO NORTH NAMES RT. HON. SUNNY EKPETIKA EKPESON AS PATRON, COMMENDS HIS LEADERSHIP IN SECURING FORESTS AND COMMUNITIES
Etsako East, Edo State – The Edo North Hunters Association, Etsako East Local Government Council branch, has formally recognized the outstanding contributions of Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, Acting Executive Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Chairman of ALGON Edo State Chapter, by appointing him as their Patron and presenting him with a Certificate of Recognition.
The presentation took place on Saturday, 9th May 2026, during a well-attended ceremony organized by the association. The award acknowledges the Chairman’s decisive role in restoring peace and strengthening security across Etsako East, creating an environment where residents, farmers, and hunters can carry out their daily activities without fear.
Unable to attend in person, Rt. Hon. Ekpeson was ably represented by his Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Bright Omoudu, who received the certificate on his behalf. In his remarks, Mr. Omoudu conveyed the Chairman’s appreciation to the association and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sustaining collaborative efforts that keep the forests and communities safe.
In their commendation, the Edo North Hunters Association highlighted how the council’s proactive security interventions have significantly reduced criminal activities in the area. They noted that the era of kidnappers and criminal gangs using the forests as hideouts is gradually coming to an end.
Through consistent bush-combing operations and sustained engagement with local security structures, the council has made hunting and other lawful activities in the bushes safer and more secure for legitimate users of the forest.
The ceremony, held at the Normadic Primary School, Ovao – Weppa venue, was graced by key stakeholders in security and traditional leadership. In attendance were the Etsako East and Etsako Central Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Musa A. Rilwanu in charge of Agenebode; the King of Weppa, His Royal Highness Akpamuka Etsu, the Ogie-Eppa of Weppa Clan; and other distinguished guests who lauded the partnership between government and community-based security groups.
As part of the event, the association also inaugurated its newly nominated executives to lead its operations across Edo North. The newly appointed Hunters are:
- Barr. Ohwafi F. – President, Hunters Association, Edo North
- Izuagbe Paul Omomoh – Vice President, Hunters Association, Edo North
- Jude Adoye – Chairman, Hunters Association, Etsako East Local Government Council
Speaking during the occasion, Mr. Bright Omoudu delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the council boss, assuring the hunters of continued government support. He emphasized that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson values the role of local hunters in intelligence gathering and forest surveillance, and will continue to work closely with them to safeguard lives and property.
This recognition stands as a testament to the impact of people-centered leadership. Under Rt. Hon. Ekpeson’s watch, Etsako East is witnessing renewed confidence in public safety, stronger collaboration between formal and community security actors, and a clear message that criminality will not be tolerated in any part of the council area.
