BUILDING A DISCIPLINED AND PURPOSE-DRIVEN GENERATION: RT. HON. SUNNY EKPETIKA EKPESON LAUNCHES A COUNCIL-WIDE CALL FOR RESPECT, ACADEMIC FOCUS, AND MORAL UPRIGHTNESS IN ETSAKO EAST SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES, ALIGNING WITH GOVERNOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO’S SHINE AGENDA TO END LOITERING, DRUG ABUSE, CULTISM, VIOLENCE AGAINST TEACHERS, AND TRUANCY FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE
A united stand to restore order, protect learning, and secure brighter destinies.
The strength of any society is measured by the character of its youth. In Etsako East, we believe our children are destined for greatness. To safeguard that destiny, Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, Acting Executive Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Chairman of ALGON, Edo State Chapter, has issued a council-wide message on discipline, respect, and responsible conduct in our schools and communities.
Recent reports from school management and community leaders have highlighted behaviors that threaten the learning environment and the future of our students. For clarity and for the good of all, these concerns are:
Behaviors of Concern Being Addressed Across Etsako East:
- Loitering During School Hours – Students wandering outside classrooms, markets, and streets instead of being in class.
- Smoking of Illicit Substances/Weeds on School Premises – Use of harmful drugs within school grounds, endangering health and safety.
- Practice of Cultism in Schools – Involvement in secretive groups that promote violence, fear, and division among students.
- Assault on Teachers and School Staff – Physical attacks or disrespectful behavior toward educators and administrators who correct or discipline students.
- Truancy and Hiding in Unsafe Places – Students spending school hours in bushes, uncompleted buildings, or deserted houses in the community instead of attending lessons.
These actions rob students of knowledge, damage school property, injure teachers, and put entire communities at risk. They are not the identity of Etsako East, and under Rt. Hon. Ekpeson’s leadership, they will not be tolerated.
Today, Monday, 25th May, 2026, the council boss sent a strong but fatherly warning: school is a place of opportunity, and every child deserves to be in class, learning. As directed by Rt. Hon. Ekpeson, his Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Bright Omoudu, visited St. Peter’s Grammar School for a general sensitization. Speaking before students, both principals of the school, Mr. Umoru Patrick, of the senior section, Mrs. Igbadumhe Susan, of the junior section and teachers, Mr. Omoudu emphasized ethics, respect, and the long-term rewards of discipline. He made it clear that rules exist to protect students, not to punish them.
This engagement became necessary because school authorities have repeatedly reported students responding to correction with violence. That must stop. Education only thrives where mutual respect exists between teachers and learners.
Council’s Position and Next Steps:
- To Students: Your parents sent you to school to become leaders, professionals, and builders of our community. Reject loitering, drugs, cultism, violence, and truancy. Choose books over bushes. Choose respect over rebellion. Your mind is a blessing — let it serve your soul for life.
- To Parents and Guardians: Please monitor your children during school hours. Ask about their lessons daily. Guide them away from bad company and unsafe places. A word at home today prevents pain tomorrow.
- To Security Agencies: The Vigilante, Nigeria Police Force, and the Army have been officially notified. They are to intensify monitoring of schools and communities during school hours. Any student found in cultism or any criminal act will be handed over to face the law.
Rt. Hon. Ekpeson’s message is simple: correction now to prevent regret later. This is about protection, not punishment. Protection of dreams, protection of teachers, and protection of Etsako East’s reputation. When our children choose discipline, the whole local government council shines brighter under His Excellence Distinguished Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE AGENDA.
Let parents, teachers, students, and community leaders join hands. Together, we will raise a generation that is educated, respectful, and ready to lead.
