Etsako East, Edo State – The Acting Executive Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Council and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Edo State Chapter, Rt. Hon. Sunny Ekpetika Ekpeson, has joined millions worldwide to celebrate the dedication, resilience, and patriotism of workers as the global community marks International Workers’ Day 2026.
In a goodwill message released today through his Chief Press Secretary, Comr. Amb. Abass Egbezemogie Yunusah, the Council Chairman extended warm felicitations to all staff of Etsako East Local Government Council and members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Etsako East Branch, as they commemorate this year’s May Day alongside counterparts across Edo State, Nigeria, and beyond.
Rt. Hon. Ekpeson described the local government workforce as the heartbeat of his administration and the driving force behind effective governance at the grassroots. He stressed that the welfare, dignity, and professional growth of every staff member remain non-negotiable pillars of his leadership vision.
Speaking with optimism about the future, the ALGON Chairman reaffirmed his dedication to building a modern, people-centered local government system. He noted that his administration is fully aligned with the transformative policies and SHINE AGENDA of the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, which are already repositioning councils for greater efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
“Workers are the engine room of every government,” Rt. Hon. Ekpeson declared. “Their well-being, motivation, and working conditions must always be prioritized because no administration can succeed without a vibrant, respected, and empowered civil service.”
The Council Boss pledged to sustain his efforts in creating a safe, dignified, and inspiring work environment that enables staff to perform at their highest potential. He assured that every policy of his administration will continue to place workers first, recognizing their critical role in translating government vision into tangible benefits for the people.
In his capacity as ALGON Chairman and newly appointed Deputy Director, City Boys Movement, Edo State Chapter, Rt. Hon. Ekpeson expressed profound appreciation to His Excellency Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, and His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for their inclusive and worker-focused governance models. He commended both leaders for championing reforms that protect the rights, welfare, and career progression of local government employees across Nigeria.
Rt. Hon. Ekpeson emphasized that a well-motivated civil service is indispensable to good governance. “When the engine of government runs smoothly, the entire body delivers,” he said. “The success or failure of public policies rests on the competence, dedication, and morale of our workers. That is why we must continue to invest in them.”
He further noted that the true impact of government on citizens is measured by the quality of implementation. “Excellent policies require excellent execution. And excellent execution comes from an efficient, disciplined, and valued workforce. This is our commitment in Etsako East.”
The Chairman concluded by saluting the courage and sacrifice of all workers, urging them to remain proud ambassadors of public service. “You are the silent builders of our communities. Your daily efforts sustain our markets, schools, health centers, and roads. Today, we celebrate you. Tomorrow, we will keep working to ensure your labour is rewarded with dignity, progress, and hope.”
