This bold move is a testament to the council’s unwavering commitment to creating a healthy and thriving environment for traders, residents, and visitors alike.

As of Yesterday, Monday, 13th April, 2026, the council chairman, accompanied by his vice chairman, Hon. Charles Aloaye Dagana and his dedicated team, personally supervised the deployment of state-of-the-art machinery and personnel to clear waste, unblock drainage channels, and remove illegal structures that have long marred the market’s landscape. This concerted effort has brought immense joy to market women, who are lavishing praise on the chairman for his foresight and dedication to improving their workspace. “This is a dream come true,” said one elated trader. “We have never seen such a thorough cleanup in this market before.”

The chairman of ALGON, Edo state chapter, Rt. Hon. Ekpeson has given a 5-day ultimatum for the completion of the exercise, emphasizing the need for diligence, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence. To accelerate progress, 50 energetic and enthusiastic youths have been engaged to work alongside machinery, ensuring a meticulous cleanup that meets the highest standards. The council has also instructed shop owners to remove illegal kiosks and caravans, and to keep drainage channels clear, to prevent flooding and promote a smooth flow of traffic.

The Head of Department of Environment, Mr. Ilaboya J.E., and staff have been tasked with monitoring and supervising the exercise, which is expected to enhance the overall aesthetic appeal of the market, promote healthy trade practices, and boost economic activity in the area. “This initiative is a game-changer for Agenebode market,” said Mr. Ilaboya. “We are committed to ensuring that this cleanup is done to perfection, and that our market becomes a model for others to follow.”

This initiative is part of a broader effort to upgrade community roads and infrastructure across Etsako East, with machinery scheduled to be deployed in Okpella and Ivie zones next week.
